[COVERAGE] TOTAL INLAND INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENT Investment expenditure on rail, road and inland waterways infrastructure: capital expenditure on new infrastructure or extension of existing infrastructure, including reconstruction, renewal (major substitution work on the existing infrastructure which does not change its overall performance) and upgrades (major modification work improving the original performance or capacity of the infrastructure). Infrastructure includes land, permanent way constructions, buildings, bridges and tunnels, as well as immovable fixtures, fitting and installations connected with them (signalisation, telecommunications, catenaries, electricity sub-stations, toll collection installations, navigation locks, mooring equipment, etc.) as opposed to rolling stock or road vehicles or inland waterways vessels. [COVERAGE] TOTAL INLAND INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENT Between 2000 and 2008, rail infrastructure expenses refer to the value of annual investment in long-term infrastructure under the management of REFER. Road infrastructure expenses do not include investment in municipal and urban roads, but include ongoing investment. Since 2009, road infrastructure expenses include the entire national road network. Since 2002, inland waterways infrastructure expenses include investment in the Douro waterway system.
