Infrastructure includes land, permanent way constructions, buildings, bridges and tunnels, as well as immovable fixtures, fitting and installations connected with them (signalisation, telecommunications, catenaries, electricity sub-stations, toll collection installations, navigation locks, mooring equipment, etc.) as opposed to rolling stock or road vehicles or inland waterways vessels. [COVERAGE] Rail infrastructure expenses do not include investment in the Brenner Basistunnel (BBT) which started in 2004. TOTAL INLAND INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENT Between 1996 and 2001, data do not include inland waterways infrastructure expenses since they are not reported (in 2002 inland waterways infrastructure expenses represent 0.06% of the total inland infrastructure expenses). Road infrastructure expenses do not include in urban and provincial roads. Since 2002, road infrastructure expenses include only investment in motorways because the whole Federal road network has been assigned to the Austrian provinces, at the exception of motorways.
