The activity level index of the Brazilian construction industry recorded the fifth increase in a row in August, reaching 51.4 points, the highest level in eight years. The diffusion index varies from 0 to 100, so each figure above 50 indicates an improvement compared to the previous month.

The construction of buildings pushed up the overall index, registering an activity level of 51 points in August, while the infrastructure activity index stood at 48.4.

According to the National Confederation of Industry, which calculates the construction activity indicators, the sector’s capacity utilization also returned to the pre-pandemic levels, staying at 60% in August, 2pp higher than in August 2019.
