The passenger traffic at the Sao Paulo Guarulhos international airport fell by 45.2% in the first half of 2020, compared to the same period of 2019, influenced by the restrictions on travelling - adopted globally - to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic. The airport – located near Brazil’s most populous city Sao Paulo – registered 435,752 passengers in June, an improvement compared to the 316,793 travellers in May.

However, compared to 2019, the number of passengers declined by 86.1% y/y in June. The biggest decrease was observed in the international passenger traffic, which plunged by 95.6% y/y to 53,332 people, compared to 1.2mn a year earlier. The number of domestic passengers plummeted by 80.3% y/y to 382,420 in June 2020, from 1.9mn in June 2019.
