COVID-19: Foreign tourism in Spain recovers but still below pre-pandemic level
Spain registered an influx of 5.2mn foreign tourists in August, which is traditionally the strongest month of the Spanish tourist season. This marks a growth of 112.6% y/y given the poor outcome due to the COVID-19 ridden summer of 2020.
However, figures are still far from the pre-pandemic level when the number of August tourists would surpass 10mn. In terms of country of origin, the largest group were tourists from France (1.3mn), followed by the UK (714.6 thousand) and Germany (677.6 thousand).
