COVID-19: Consumer confidence in the UK record high ahead of reopening
United Kingdom’s consumer confidence index hit 56.1 in July 2021, the highest value on record, ahead of the government’s decision to lift nearly all remaining COVID-19 restrictions in England.
The remaining parts of the UK – Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland – have also relaxed some of the restrictions, although to a lesser extent compared to England. UK has one of the highest vaccination rates among leading economies, but nevertheless some experts are wary of a full reopening due to the unpredictable consequences linked to newer variants of the coronavirus.
