On February 27, 2020, South Korea surpassed China and became the country with the most new confirmed cases of Covid-19.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 505 new cases of the virus were confirmed, whereas in China the figure was 439. For the first time since the outbreak China is not the country with the highest number of new cases, which could mark a turning point in the efforts to contain the virus.

Apart from South Korea, Italy is the other country with spike in the number of new confirmed cases in the past week. On February 27, the new cases of Covid-19 in Italy were 78, which is less than in the previous two days. Another countries worth mentioning, are Iran, where the WHO reports 46 new cases, and Kuwait with 31. The virus outbreak reached Spain this week and on Thursday the new confirmed cases of Covid-19 were 10.
