Amid the rise in fresh new cases, and worrisome new strains, India has managed to keep up the pace of vaccination, despite being a little sluggish at the end of March and early April. Amongst the states, Gujarat has recorded the highest number of vaccinations, followed by Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh, in terms of the first dose.

Interestingly, due to 4-8 weeks gap between the two doses, the states of Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh emerge at the top in terms of the second dose. Sources: CEIC Data, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and Central Statistics Office

However, when vaccinations per 100 people are considered, the much smaller states of Tripura and Sikkim lead the way, followed by Kerala, Gujarat, and Chhattisgarh. On April 1, 2021, the vaccinations were opened to 45 to 60 years age bracket.
