Considering yearly average growth rates of all segments, the 0-3 experience level, or fresher, seems to be more in demand, followed by those with experience of 4-7 years and 8-12 years.

However, the demand for jobs in the experience levels between 13 and 16 years is less than for people with over 16 years of experience. Even more interesting to note is that prior to the pandemic when India was already undergoing a slowdown, the employment prospects for all experience levels slowed down from the previous year, and demand for the two most experienced groups of workers even declined.

But after the pandemic, in FY2021, the decline in the first three experience levels (0-3, 4-7, and 8-12) was more pronounced. This could partly be explained by the low base for the highest experience categories. As of May 2021, the monthly data indicates an upward trend, mostly on account of low base effects, but the situation is likely to improve with good government policies in place, and a recovery in economic activity following the second wave of infections.
