The Purchasing Manager’s Indices (PMI) in major economies started the year 2020 with mixed results. The US PMI stood at 51.9 points, slightly decreasing from 52.4 in December 2019.

Similarly, China’s PMI dropped to 51.1, 0.4 points lower than the previous month. While decreasing, the PMI figures for both countries are above the 50 threshold, which means the manufacturing sector is expanding.

On the other hand, the index for the Euro Area increased to 47.9 in January 2020, 1.6 points above the previous month’s figure, but remaining below the 50 point threshold, which divides growth from contraction. Among the surveyed countries in the table, India posted the highest PMI at 55.3 points, jumping from 50.6 points in October 2019. The lowest figure was recorded in Germany - 45.3 points.
