Brazil reports current account surplus for a third month in a row

The current account in Brazil recorded a surplus of USD 2.2bn in June 2020, the third positive balance in a row, compared to a deficit of USD 2.7bn in June 2019. The trade balance posted a surplus worth BRL 6.9bn in June compared to BRL 3.9bn in May, mainly because imports dropped due to the subdued economic activity.

The services balance also contributed to the positive result in June, as the deficit fell to BRL 1.37bn in June from BRL 1.74bn in May, influenced by the tourism freeze. 
In the first half of 2020, the current account deficit stood at USD 9.7bn, compared to USD 21bn in H1 2019.
