Headline inflation in Poland accelerated to 3.36% y/y in December 2019 from 0.87% in the previous month. This is the highest figure in 2019 and resulted from an increase in prices of food, beverages and tobacco, as well as from a recovering price growth in the transportation sector.

The core inflation, which excludes fresh food and energy prices, followed similar pattern, surging from 0.82% y/y in January 2019 to 3.11% y/y at the end of the year 2019.

For the whole 2019, headline inflation in Poland averaged 2.3%, accelerating from 1.64% in 2018, and it stayed close to the Polish central bank’s medium-term inflation target of 2.5%. On the other hand, the average core inflation was measured at 1.95%, compared to 0.72% in 2018.
