The industrial inventories index in Brazil stood at 45.5 in December, lower than the 50-threshold, meaning that the inventories of final products declined. According to the National Confederation of Industry (CNI), which conducts the survey, the index in December was slightly lower than in November, when the indicator was 45.8.

However, the CNI highlights that the December value was closer to the level intended by the factories to meet the demand, compared to November. Industrial inventories in Brazil fell in many sectors, influenced by the paralysation of factories between March and June 2020 and increased demand for manufactured products, as the government’s cash transfer programs helped low-income families maintain their purchasing power over the past year.
