Now Available on CDM: Seasonally Adjusted Real Wage Index of Japan
December 30, 2013 CEIC Macro Watch – Global Expansion Highlights #3
- Monthly seasonally-adjusted real wage indexes for firms with more than 5 and 30 employees for Japan are now available on CDM.
- The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare provides the data with base 2000=100 and coverage since January 1970 (firms >30 employees) and January 1990 (firms >5 employees).
- Despite some decline since June 2013, the real wage indices for firms with more than 5 and 30 employees in the manufacturing sector are slowly recovering to their 2008 pre-crisis level. However, when all industries are considered, real wages have remained stagnant since their post-crisis rebound in 2010, with a well-pronounced recent drop partly attributable to the modest growth in inflation since the beginning of the second quarter of 2013.
