However, we can sum up the reported data for reference, as indicated in the charts below. The actual size of China’s total debt is believed to be much larger than this amount.

Breakdown by Foreign Debt, Bond and Loan

In the charts below, we have applied the following data:
  • Foreign Debt: Total Foreign Debt released by the State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE)
  • Bond: Total Bond Depository estimated by the People's Bank of China (PBoC)
  • Loan: Outstanding Loan released by PBoC
  • For the data that has not been released, we applied the previous available data

    Breakdown by Public, Corporate and Household

    In the charts below, we have applied the following data:
  • Public Debt: Total Foreign Debt released by SAFE, Outstanding Government Debt (including Contingent Liability) released by the National Audit Office
  • Corporate Debt: Loan to Enterprise released by PBoC, Outstanding Corporate Bond released by China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC)
  • Household Debt: Domestic Loan to Household released by PBoC
