Brazil’s annual inflation accelerates in April

The Broad Consumer Price Index (IPCA) – the official measure of inflation in Brazil – soared by 6.8% y/y in April, above the target set at 3.75% for 2021, as price growth of pharmaceutical products accelerated. This is the highest figure since 2016.

On a monthly basis, however, the inflation slowed down to 0.3% m/m in April, from 0.9% m/m in March, as fuel price decreased by 0.9% m/m in the fourth month of the year, seasonally adjusted.
