The US Federal Reserve lowered the benchmark interest rate by 25 basis points from the range of 1.75%-2.00% to 1.50%-1.75% on its October 30th, 2019 meeting. That was the third rate cut this year in an attempt to support the US economy and to provide some cushions against downside risks. According to the statement of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC), the current monetary policy remains appropriate and well placed to support the economic growth against the backdrop of a strong labour market and inflation rising back to FED’s 2% annual goal.
